A 180-degree panorama from Peak Hill, New Zealand. I believe this could be the first astrophotograph taken from up here! The Carina Nebula can be seen at the top of the sky, Large Magellanic Cloud to the right, and some awesome airglow from atomic oxygen excitation near the horizon.
I had a crazy idea, hike up Peak Hill with most of my photography equipment for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. I was 10 minutes into the extremely steep hike when I realised my 26.5kg bag was too heavy, but I had to keep going, I had to complete my plan. It was a slow grind over 2.5 hours with quite a few stops, the start of the track just goes straight up, with marble-like rocks on hard clay, making the track very slippery (coming down was a lot worse and I took a couple of spills but was fine).
I finally made it to the top, only to have the wind pick right up, there needs to be virtually zero wind when shooting long exposures, tracked panoramas are no exception... read more

Embark on a journey into the surreal realm of David Lineton, where abstract color images draw inspiration from surrealistic artwork and graphical architecture. Through a masterful fusion of artistic influences, Lineton creates a series of captivating compositions that challenge perception and ignite the imagination. Each image is a visual symphony of vibrant hues and dynamic forms, inviting viewers to explore the interplay between dreamlike landscapes and geometric structures. With Obscure, Lineton invites you to immerse yourself in a world where reality and fantasy converge, where the boundaries of possibility are blurred, and where the language of color speaks volumes about the depths of the subconscious. read more
Olympic National Park has 3 area's of the park, coastal, forest and mountains. Give me a good old growth forest any day and I'm a happy camper. I find forests calming, I can sit there and just breath in the fresh air, listen to the hushed sounds of all the living creatures that call the forest home.
When I roam around in a forest I like to do it on an overcast day, I find it easier to actually see the forest through the trees. This scene is of an old growth temperate rain forest in the Sol Duc river valley on the north side of the park. Its one of many accessible areas in the park that are dominated by lush old growth rain forests.
When I first came across this scene it amazed me how far back I could see trees and as I was looking at each tree the other trees fell out of focus so I wanted to show it that way... read more
I didn't realize just how stunning a large format photograph could look until I saw one of these.
