Theodore Roosevelt is one of the least visited National Parks in the lower 48 states and the North section of the park is even less graced with visitors. The park in western North Dakota is a sprawling 70,445 acres comprised of three distant sections. The park is broken down into three main sections, the South Unit (the most visited section), the North Unit, and Elkhorn Ranch. The park is home to badlands and grasslands, and has some of the only remaining original prairies left in the United States.
This beautiful sunset photography was taken just after the summer thunderstorms had finished over the North Section of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I parked at the Little Missouri Overlook and slid down the slightly terrifying and highly slick muddy slope for the perfect vantage point for this photograph. If you look closely at the river banks you can see footprints left by bison.
Creating this VAST photo was a rather hard challenge. As the storm cleared and sunset approached the light was quickly changing. I had to work rather fast to take all the photos needed to stitch this work together.
