Olympic National Park has 3 area's of the park, coastal, forest and mountains. Give me a good old growth forest any day and I'm a happy camper. I find forests calming, I can sit there and just breath in the fresh air, listen to the hushed sounds of all the living creatures that call the forest home.
When I roam around in a forest I like to do it on an overcast day, I find it easier to actually see the forest through the trees.
This scene is of an old growth temperate rain forest in the Sol Duc river valley on the north side of the park. Its one of many accessible areas in the park that are dominated by lush old growth rain forest's.
When I first came across this scene it amazed me how far back I could see trees and as I was looking at each tree the other trees fell out of focus so I wanted to show it that way. Take a look at the individual trees. The depth of field shows the depth of the forest where some are absolutely sharp while others are not. I choose to make the image this way, its how I originally saw it and I have found that my first sense is usually what I end up going with.
