The image was taken in the Arctic winter. At the lofoten (Norwegian lynx paws) islands in the Norwegian province of Nordland.
Because of the warm Gulf Stream, the fjords do not freeze and the temperatures are significantly warmer than in other regions of the same latitude.
The picture was taken in front of the Fredvang Bridges (Norwegian: Fredvangbruene) after a stormy day when the clouds showed the fjord for a moment in the wonderful evening light shortly before a long winter night.
The Fredvang Bridges are two cantilever bridges that connect the fishing village of Fredvang on the island of Moskenesøya with the neighboring island of Flakstadøya.
The southern part of the two bridges is called Kubholmleia Bridge (Norwegian: Kubholmleia bru) and the northern one is the Røssøystraumen Bridge (Norwegian: Røssøystraumen bru). Both bridges are together 240 meters long and have a main span of 115 meters.
They are among the many impressive bridges of the most beautiful roads in Norway. They combine the unique island world of the Lofoten archipelago.
