The picture was taken from Mount Lagazuio above the Falzarego Pass in the Italian Dolomites.

You can see almost the entire Dolomites. From the Geisler peaks to the Tofana, from the Sella to Marmolada, Civetta and Pelmo to the Sorapis.

The Lagazuoi is a two-peaked mountain in the Fanes Group of the Dolomites. The Great Lagazuoi is 2835 m high. The name is derived from the Ampezzanian-Ladin fĂłuze, "sickle".

According to a widespread folk ethymology, however, the name Falza Rego means "false king" and refers to the king of the empire of the Fanes, who according to legend became stone because of his betrayal and can still be seen today from the pass on the Lagazuoi.

The most famous Dolomite legends played here and tells of the king's daughter Dolasilla and the legendary realm of the Fanes.

The empire of the Fanes, the legendary kingdom of Ladinia, was supported by powerful forces. On the side of the male representatives of the royal family were the eagles, who enabled them to expand their great empire further and further.

Dolasilla, the war heroine of the epic, had a white tank and a number of infallible arrows: if the tank ever turned black, she would not be allowed to go into battle, as she would then die.

Ey de Net (night eye) wanted to marry the beautiful king's daughter, but was rejected by her father.
Eventually, the most important battle was getting closer and closer and the wizard Spina de Mul, a half-decayed mule skeleton, managed to take her arrows from Dolasilla.

As a result, her tank turned black. Nevertheless, she went into battle.
The enemies did not recognize Dolasilla at first, as they were looking for a white tank. Eventually, however, they saw her, and she died in the hail of her own arrows.

The queen was able to retreat with some marmots at the last second into the underground passages of the Fanes, but the king became stone and can still be seen today as "falza rego" (Italian for "false king") at the Falzarego Pass.

But there was one last hope: Lidsanel. He had three wishes free, but each time he forgot to wish the infallible arrows back. So members of the kingdom still live underground with the marmots, waiting for their return...

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
