The picture was taken at the Ilas mountain lake. A small section of the Forggenlake in the Allgäu Alps (Germany). The artificial lake is crossed by the river Lech, which from here loses its wildness as a mountain river.
The fascinating thing about this "last wild river of Europe" is above all its colour: magical light blue-turquoise to jade green. The Lech owes this to two factors: on the one hand, the high content of minerals in the water, which the river dissolves from its stones, and on the other hand, the low water temperature.
If you look closely, you can see castles and palaces in the picture. Neuschwanstein Castle is the left one.
Neuschwanstein is often referred to as a fairytale castle. It is the most famous of the castles of King Ludwig II of bavaria and one of the most famous sights in Germany.
It is considered a symbol of the time of Romanticism and is known worldwide. In American advertising, it is the most used castle motif.
The castle was the model for several buildings around the world, especially for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The Castle at Disneyland Paris was also modelled on the Bavarian "fairytale castle". The same applies to the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
