A night alone on a mountain peak is always beautiful and a sunrise after a could night something very special. For this picture i was on the Sulzspitze in autumn.
The Sulzspitze is a 2084 meter high mountain in the Allgäu Alps. The Lias-Grasmountain made of Aptychen- limestone is located in the Austrian province of Tyrol and is accessible via hiking trails.
The first mention of the Sulzspitze is documented for the year 1557. In a document of the municipality of Tannheim it says under the Sulzspitz.
There are several explanations for the origin of the word "Sulz". Most likely, the name comes from salt leaks of the Wild animals. The rocks around the summit exposes salt, which could possibly be used by the animals.
The Sulzspitze rises east of the Vilsalpsee and north of the Leilachspitze (2274 m in the picture on the right), from which it is separated by the Weißenbachtal.
To the east the Strindenscharte separates the Sulzspitze from the Litnisschrofen (2068 m) and to the southwest lies the Gappenfeldscharte to the Schochenspitze (2069 m).
In the basin between Sulzspitze and Litnisschrofen begins the Strindental (centre of the picture) in which the Strindenbach (stream) flows to the northeast into the Tannheimer Tal and the Haldensee.
