During the pandemic the eastern half of Glacier National Park was closed. But that didn’t stop me from heading that direction anyway. Being very familiar with the park, I was aware of photo opportunities just outside of the St. Mary entrance even though access to the park wasn’t possible. Given this, and that it was late in the season by Glacier National Park standards, I was also fairly sure that no one else would be there, and it’s nice to have a place to yourself sometimes.
I was right, the area was deserted. But ultimately, I made the trek because of one significant factor, it was predicted that the weather was going to be horrible, and horrible weather often makes for the best photography.
The weather did not disappoint. I was met with an early winter snowstorm offering a wind chill hovering around negative 10 degrees. Perfect weather for photography!
The landscape was amazing! Clouds were dancing all over the place. Sunbeams everywhere. The mountains looked gorgeous. I photographed for about 8 hours only taking a break when it was necessary to thaw out my externals. I spent the bulk of time photographing from the St. Mary’s Scenic Overlook / Blackfeet Indian Memorial turnout off US 89. That is where this image was taken. It took about 3 hours, braving 30 mile an hour winds, below zero cold, and heavy snow. But like I said, horrible weather can make for some of the greatest imagery.
My ears are still thawing out.
And the best part is, you can enjoy this VAST Ultra High-Resolution Image in your home sipping cocoa by the fire all warm and toasty! You’re welcome.
Title Origin: The image to me looks like God revealing Himself through His creation. As I stood there capturing the image it was impossible to not be moved by His awesome glory. A horrible freezing cold and warm spiritual experience all in one.
Thanks ... and thanks again,
David David

Our photographic prints are created using a specialty, large-format fine art printer designed to produce archival, museum-grade prints. They are true "chromogenic" prints: light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom using state-of-the-art lasers to produce the sharpest possible image. Click on the icons below to learn more or click here to explore further.
Our photographic prints are available in one of two finishes: glossy and lustre. Glossy prints have a rich, silky saturation and are great for environments where the lighting and reflections have been carefully thought through. Lustre prints have a bright, sparkle-like finish that diffuses reflections and are therefore more versatile for environments where the lighting and reflections are less under your control.
Your print comes with two certificates of authenticity hand-signed by the artist and the printmaker: one that you will affix to the finished piece and one that remains standalone. Additionally, your print's provenance is tracked and verified using state-of-the-art digital technology. Learn more.
Our acrylic glass displays are ready-to-hang works of art that contain one of our photographic prints sealed between flame-polished acrylic glass and an aluminum backing. A hidden mounting brace on the rear causes the display to gracefully "float" off the wall for a sleek, modern frameless look that complements nearly any decor style.
