There are a handful of views of San Francisco that have become extremely popular with photographers. All of them are beautiful, and worth a visit. But sometimes, once you've seen all of those... you feel an urge to try somewhere different.
On this day, I knew there was likely going to be beautiful ground-level fog flowing in through the Golden Gate and into San Francisco. (In addition to being a photographer, I'm a meteorologist, which makes this a bit easier!). Instead of heading to one of the usual vantage points near the bridge, I decided to try somewhere a bit different.
It was mostly clear when we left home, but soon, fingers of fog began to fill in the many valleys between us and the city. The skyline and bridges remained visible above the fog. It was quite a treat to watch. By the time the sun went down, the fog quickly rose, and the bridge and many of the hills had disappeared into the grey. This VAST photo showcases all the highlights of this peaceful afternoon above the clouds!
