During my time living in the North Bay, I have discovered countless vistas and compositions that have rarely or never before been professionally photographed. Some are in areas that thousands of people pass every day, and others are on remote wilderness trails. Beauty truly is all around us.

On this particular morning, in anticipation of a VERY rare dusting of Marin County snow, I woke up in pitch darkness and hiked up this mountain from the valley floor below. It was still snowing lightly as I neared the summit, but the storm slowly cleared and the sun came out, revealing this incredible scene! Just a few hours later, the snow was all gone. This is the nature of nature's most spectacular moments -- they're often fleeting, and we just have to be there! Experiencing these moments, and sharing them with you so you can enjoy them in your space, is my favorite part of my job.

This image is part of my Awaken series, which showcases the beauty of little-known areas, with the goal of inspiring locals to explore and love our backyard. As of the time of publishing, there is no other image like this in existence. There will undoubtedly be attempts to duplicate it, but few will succeed with the conditions and method required for a large print. As with most images in the Awaken series, serious buyers may choose to have the location revealed to them. I hope you enjoy it!

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
