After the Storm

244 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
Mendocino County, California

On rare occasions, snow dustings occur at low elevations in Northern California. I took this photo just as an extremely cold, powerful winter storm was clearing out of the area. The same storm produced snow down to 1000' in the San Francisco Bay Area, and several feet of snow that closed roads for days in the Lake Tahoe region. It was a very special opportunity to photograph a fleeting winter scene in an area that isn't known for it. I seized the opportunity and went for a drive, just following my instinct until I saw the snowy hills, and drove up into them. After photographing some snow-covered oak trees in the stormy cloak of winter, then hiking up a mountain the following morning to catch the clearing storm back home in Marin County, I came back up here the next evening to watch the storm clear. This is the scene I was greeted with. This is not a commonly photographed area, especially considering how beautiful it is!

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
