469 megapixels! A very high resolution, wallpaper photo of a Colorado landscape with autumn trees in the foreground and mountains in the background; photograph created by Jeff Lewis in Crested Butte, Colorado

Journey's End

Crested Butte, Colorado

Fall colors in Colorado. A classic American landscape.

Despite being a full-time landscape photographer for a decade, I had never made this pilgrimage before. I had seen too many photos of the same places, heard horror stories about overcrowding, and felt I could find similar scenes in other places.

With a little push out the door from a good flight deal (who doesn't love those?), I decided to spend a week in western Colorado this year, with an open mind. I was blown away by the beauty of the region. Fiery fall colors, massive mountain ranges, and dramatic ever-changing weather. It was almost sensory overload!

Unlike most photographers I know, when I travel, I DON'T extensively research known "photo spots". I prefer to just familiarize myself with the kind of scenery I can expect, and the available roads and trails -- and then just go and explore. I drove right past lakes with dozens of photographers, ignored places that had become so popular they started charging reservations and a "tripod fee", and instead explored dirt roads and hiked.

This particular location near Kebler Pass is certainly no secret, but it offers an unparalled experience of fall color viewing. With wispy clouds and a dusting of snow on the peaks, it was the perfect opportunity to capture the expanse of brilliant fall colors -- in a way that only a VAST photo can!

Print only

Our photographic prints are created using a specialty, large-format fine art printer designed to produce archival, museum-grade prints. They are true "chromogenic" prints: light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom using state-of-the-art lasers to produce the sharpest possible image. Click on the icons below to learn more or click here to explore further.

Our photographic prints are available in one of two finishes: glossy and lustre. Glossy prints have a rich, silky saturation and are great for environments where the lighting and reflections have been carefully thought through. Lustre prints have a bright, sparkle-like finish that diffuses reflections and are therefore more versatile for environments where the lighting and reflections are less under your control.

Your print comes with two certificates of authenticity hand-signed by the artist and the printmaker: one that you will affix to the finished piece and one that remains standalone. Additionally, your print's provenance is tracked and verified using state-of-the-art digital technology. Learn more.
