The San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado are well know for exhibiting some of the best Fall Colors in all of the Rocky Mountains from Canada to New Mexico. County Road 7 is perhaps the best location for capturing the fall spectacular. Aspens and scrub oaks cover the area and in early October nearly always display a vast array of colors. This shoot was taken about 30 minutes before sunset. The nearly full moon hovers in the eastern sky.
Mt. Sneffels is one of 58 mountain peaks in Colorado that exceed 14,000 feet (known as "fourteeners" or "14ers" locally) — the most of any state. Mt. Sneffels, soaring 4313m / 14,150-ft. with 360 degree panoramic views, is popular with hikers & advanced mountaineers. Cirque Mountain with an elevation: 4171 m / 13686 ft. and Teakettle Mountain, elevation: 4212 m / 13819 ft both stand to the left of Sneffels.
