Mt. Rainier National Park has some amazing scenes of old growth forest, alpine lake and craggy ridge lines but at night when the light show kicks in the mountains profile is really the only show in town and it is stunning.
In the Summer on a moonless night the Milky Way passes behind the mountain and offers a stunning profile of the most iconic scene in the Pacific Northwest.
Making images at night takes a bit of practice and patience. I made this image at midnight but I showed up 4 hours early to compose the image and focus. That sounds simple but you have to actually do it. I don't use auto focus zoom lenses. I've found they aren't sharp enough corner to corner. Instead I use very sharp "prime" lenses on nearly every image I make so that when it gets printed at 20+ feet its sharp.
I hope you enjoy this image and that you have zoomed in to find the climbers with there headlamps on.
