Evening light, Monsoon clouds on the open Colorado Plateau with Wukoki pueblo (ruin), wow, gotta love that. The Monsoon weather pattern offers such lovely light and put in Wukoki pueblo and you have a all the elements of a great image. I spent a considerable amount of time at this location this Summer and was able to get choosy with the light and that's a luxury.
I had the privilege of being an Artist in Residence here at Wupatki National Monument which is part of the Flagstaff Monuments Group, This is a unit of the National Park Service and there are 3 monuments in the group. I had a great deal of access flexibility that most visitors don't have. I'm a former ranger with the National Park Service and I understand and support the mission statement of the NPS. With that said I didn't just run around where ever I wanted to. I don't think that would have been appropriate. I did discreetly go to areas to make images such as this. The saying goes "take only pictures and leave only footprints", I feel I left very few footprints.
