The Palouse region of eastern Washington, especially in Whitman County is a vast region of rolling hills, carpeted with wheat, barley, lentils, canola and blue grass. Whitman County grows more wheat than anywhere in the USA, that's an enormous amount of wheat.
From Steptoe Butte the view is broad and expansive, on a clear day you think you can see forever and sometimes you can. There are so many great vantage points in the Palouse, this is just one of them. Everyday the colors change little by little. There is a point in time when the crops peak in green and the canola are a bright yellow. A few weeks later the greens begin to shift and take on a golden tint before becoming all golden just before harvest. Experiencing the growing season and seeing harvest is fascinating.
