The Palouse region of eastern Washington is many things but farming those rolling hills is what it's known for. This image to me represents early Summer in the Palouse. The crops are in and its "growing" season. In the foreground the canola is in full bloom and that yellow can be seen for miles against the green of every other crop and that blue sky, its just a crazy colorful place to be.
In the distance you can see the top of Steptoe Butte, it's one of the the highest points in eastern Washington and offers some fantastic views. Every photographer goes there for sunrise and sunset. 20-25 miles views are common and to see the contour of the land from there is fantastic. Actually that's where I got the idea for this image. to contrast the yellow and green against the blue sky was what I was seeing in my minds eye. The building Cumulonimbus clouds I think are a bonus. They add a iconic touch to the sky.
