The iconic Cherry Blossoms of Washington, D.C. in their peak bloom. The Japanese term “Hanami” translates literally to flower viewing and refers to the enjoyment of the transient beauty of flowers. The Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom peak bloom in late March / early April attracts an estimated 1.5 million visitors a year to experience the nearly 3800 Cherry trees. Visitors will find mostly Yoshino Cherry Trees, but also Kanzan Cherry, Akebono Cherry, Usuzumi Cherry, Black Cherry, Choke Cherry, Higan Cherry, Okame Cherry, Oshima Cherry, Snowgoose Cherry, Sour Cherry, Sweet Cherry, and a handful of other varieties. The cherry trees in bloom mark the first real sign of spring in the area. The views along with the warmer weather make it a pleasure for tourists and locals alike to get out and enjoy downtown Washington, D.C. and the National Mall.

Taken from a rooftop near the Tidal Basin, my goal with this crop of the larger panoramic image was to convey the scene during the D.C. Cherry Blossom fervor and the beautiful architecture of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Washington, D.C. is not a large city like New York City with the plethora of tall buildings as far as the eye can see. Rather it is filled with many unique sites and monuments which make up the cohesive whole of D.C.

This high-resolution photo allows for making extremely large fine art prints and produces a hyper-realistic look unlike that of traditional fine art photography. It provides the viewer unrestricted access to the most intricate details of the many flowering cherry blossoms in their peak bloom and the nuances of the surrounding area. The trees guide the viewer along the Tidal Basin to explore the happenings. The viewer can also explore Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac River, the Air Force Memorial, Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery, and the myriad people from all over the world that come to Washington, D.C. to enjoy the ephemeral beauty of the peak bloom of the Cherry Blossoms.

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
