New York City is one of those cities where one must visit in order to grasp the size, density and vibrance. It puts things into perspective of how small we are on this earth. The city is alive and constantly changing. I think most New Yorkers would be able to spot tourists like myself from a mile away. I walked the streets staring upwards, in constant awe of the sheer size of the buildings around me.
The unmistakable building in this photo of the New York City skyline is the Empire State Building itself. Nearly 100 years old, the behemoth still stands taller than most buildings in Manhattan. At over 1200 feet tall, it permits us mere humans a birds-eye view of the world below. A chance to glimpse a moment in time of the ever-changing city and its occupants.
I currently live in Washington, D.C., where no building can be taller than the U.S. Capitol Building. Visiting New York City, it’s impossible not to be overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of buildings as well as the number of skyscrapers. Using my telephoto lens, I shot 90 photos (5 rows of 18) on a very hot afternoon in July to capture the view with dense buildings as far as the eye can see. Behind all those windows are homes, offices, and everything in between where there is a story to be told. It all comes together making up the thriving New York City. This expansive north-facing view was shot near the Manhattan Bridge.
While it can be a bit chaotic walking the crowded streets of New York City, the cohesive whole of all of that craziness when viewed from above is something magical. This photo was shot just north of Chinatown, and includes views of the neighborhoods in Lower Manhattan, SoHo, NoHo, East Village, Greenwich Village, Union Square, Gramercy Park and everything that falls in-between.
This ultra-high resolution photo of New York City allows for making extremely large fine art prints and produces a hyper-realistic look unlike that of traditional fine art photography. It provides the viewer unrestricted access to the most intricate details of the scene. Looking at the iconic cityscape of the one and only New York City on the bustling island of Manhattan gives one an appreciation for the millions of things happening at once that make up one of the largest and most vibrant cities in the world.
