The hills of the Bay Area are endless sources of inspiration, for photography, hiking, and wandering. On this brisk morning, I decided to go for a hike at the crack of dawn, to get above the fog inversion and see what the first light would bring. It was quite a treat, and the clear air allowed me to capture it in high resolution as a VAST photo! It was amazing to watch the fog changing constantly, with the trees and homes of my hometown poking above. I love how the trail leads our eye into the frame and makes us feel like we can go for a relaxing walk, wherever we are. I chose this photo for the cover of my book, "Hidden Gems of Marin, Vol. I".

This image is part of my Awaken series, which showcases the beauty of little-known areas, with the goal of inspiring locals to explore and love our backyard. As of the time of publishing, there is no other image like this in existence. There will undoubtedly be attempts to duplicate it, but few will succeed with the conditions and method required for a large print. As with most images in the Awaken series, serious buyers may choose to have the location revealed to them. I hope you enjoy it!

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
