Mt. Tamalpais has built up quite the reputation among California photographers. It's known as a stunning place to watch the ocean fog flow over the hills and through the trees.
This evening, to most photographers, would be considered a failure, or a "skunk". The fog was lower and further away. When I realized this, I started to drive away to a different location. Not even a minute went by, though, before I noticed this beautiful golden light on the hills, and I just HAD to stop to soak it all in. I couldn't help but notice all the people on the next hill over, just enjoying the sunset. One couple had even set up a full picnic with a table and chairs! Tiny-looking cars made their way up and down the road, lovers held each other's hands, and families pointed in all directions at the fog, sun, and brilliant light.
It was a perfect opportunity for a VAST photo: beautiful golden light that would last just long enough for me to complete the photo process, and so many small, fun details throughout the scene that carry the charm of the experience, and are best enjoyed up close. As is often the case for my VAST photos, I combined images with multiple focus points to ensure maximum detail all the way to the corners for perfect prints!
