A gorgeous foggy morning in the hills of Marin and Sonoma Counties, California.
This view is commonly photographed in the winter, with Tule fog. It is absolutely gorgeous then. However, most photographers avoid it in the summer, when low fog in the valleys is much more rare. However, I realized summer has a much more favorable sun angle -- in the winter, the sun rises behind a big hill, and the hills just don't get the same stunning golden light. So, seeing a rare day of low fog in the summer, I gave it a try, and it was everything I hoped for! Plus, the two other photographers around both left just as the sun came up, so I enjoyed this spectacular view all to myself. It was quite a clear morning, so I was able to make this VAST photo!
This image is part of my Awaken series, which showcases the beauty of little-known areas, with the goal of inspiring locals to explore and love our backyard. As of the time of publishing, there is no other image like this in existence. There will undoubtedly be attempts to duplicate it, but few will succeed with the conditions and method required for a large print. As with most images in the Awaken series, serious buyers may choose to have the location revealed to them. I hope you enjoy it!
