The Snoqualmie Valley of Washington State is a land of deep forests and towns built on the timber and rail industries. While most years, these forests feature only shifting shades of green, in other years there will be perhaps a small handful of days when the elements combine to create lowland snow and turn these seas of green to sparkling white.
This view to the south from the Snoqualmie Falls overlook features this powder-coated version of the native Douglas fir, western red cedar, big leaf maple, vine maple and western hemlock trees which have provided shelter to humans and countless other plants and animals for thousands of years.
In the upper left corner of the image, you'll find the railroad trestle which once helped link the towns of Snoqualmie and North Bend to the greater Seattle area. Now defunct, it still serves as a reminder of a long history, and its relative size gives a sense of scale to the mighty trees which surround it on all sides.
