4,741 megapixels! A very high resolution, large-format VAST photo print of a stream, waterfall, and rocks; black and white fine art nature photo created by Steve Webster in Red Rock Canyon, Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta Canada

Red Rock Canyon Black #1

4,741 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta Canada

In the heart of Waterton Lakes National Park (located in the province of Alberta, Canada) a small glacier stream has quietly and steadily, over eons of time, cut a deep valley through an iron rich vein of red stone.

This place is aptly named Red Rock Canyon and it's my favourite place in the world. Making VAST photos here is particularly challenging due mostly to the temperature of the water, which comes from local glaciers, making it freezing cold! I wear full wetsuit pants with built in socks when shooting here as it's impossible to stand in the water for more than few seconds otherwise. If you fall into the water you better get out quick as hypothermia will get you within a few minutes. The beauty and seclusion of the canyon along with the cold, clear fresh water (which is the best tasting water in the world) provide for an absolutely beautiful experience.

Taken early in the morning, so the canyon will be in even shaded lighting for the duration of the over 700 individual exposures, this image has a hauntingly beautiful feel. In black and white this is a stunning image with an unbelievably high resolution and enlarging power.

Print only

Our photographic prints are created using a specialty, large-format fine art printer designed to produce archival, museum-grade prints. They are true "chromogenic" prints: light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom using state-of-the-art lasers to produce the sharpest possible image. Click on the icons below to learn more or click here to explore further.

Our photographic prints are available in one of two finishes: glossy and lustre. Glossy prints have a rich, silky saturation and are great for environments where the lighting and reflections have been carefully thought through. Lustre prints have a bright, sparkle-like finish that diffuses reflections and are therefore more versatile for environments where the lighting and reflections are less under your control.

Your print comes with two certificates of authenticity hand-signed by the artist and the printmaker: one that you will affix to the finished piece and one that remains standalone. Additionally, your print's provenance is tracked and verified using state-of-the-art digital technology. Learn more.

Acrylic glass display

Our acrylic glass displays are ready-to-hang works of art that contain one of our photographic prints sealed between flame-polished acrylic glass and an aluminum backing. A hidden mounting brace on the rear causes the display to gracefully "float" off the wall for a sleek, modern frameless look that complements nearly any decor style.
