The Jasper National Park region of the Canadian Rocky Mountains is known for its fresh, cold, and distinctively deep, emerald blue colored water. This water flows down from huge glaciers located high up in the mountain tops, that stay frozen all year round.
Sunwapta Falls offers the viewer a chance to bear witness to this beautiful water as it cuts a valley through the lushly forested, rocky terrain in the shadow the snowy mountain peaks where the very water flowing over the falls may well have originated. Fed by the Sunwapta river, a natural island has formed just before the falls, which gives the scene a wonderful, picturesque feel as the river splits into two and then reunites again before crashing down the the falls.
