Calling yourself a landscape photographer is dangerous. Even the word "vacation" can mean something completely different, if you aren't careful!

On this Oahu adventure, "vacation" meant waking up at 3:50AM, slathering on bug spray, driving an hour, ascending a muddy, slippery trail, scaling several vertical cliffs with the help of ropes, all in the dark, and standing at the top in a pool of sweat waiting for the sun to rise... or it meant packing up from the beach early to speed across town with an empty water bottle, and hike up a steep hill with the help of ropes... and loving every second of the adventure!

Of course, between these hikes, I enjoyed some shave ice, local grinds, and a dip in the ocean. See, photographers ARE capable of "vacation", too! Sometimes, anyway...

One of the most interesting aspects of Oahu's scenery is the human influence throughout many of the views. This view is no exception, showing the sky-piercing cliffs called Nuanuu Pali, with multiple highways cutting through the passes, and a golf course and cities of Kaneohe and Kailua on the right. It's uncommon to see such heavily populated areas interspersed with such dramatic mountains. I admit, I slightly envy the people who get to drive that highway on their way to work every day. Don't you?
