Pinkham Notch, White Mountains, New Hampshire
Crystal Cascade is an often-overlooked waterfall in Pinkham Notch. Too many hikers get caught up tackling Mount Washington to take a short break off the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to view Crystal Cascade. As a result, the falls is visited by only a fraction of the hikers along the trail.
Directly ahead of a rock-wall outlook, Crystal Cascade drops a total of 100 feet in two segments that are split by a platform with a shallow dark pool. The upper segment is a horsetail of approximately 70 feet in height, and the lower section is a 30-foot tall block.
The Crystal Cascade is situated along the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. The trail begans from the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. The hike to Crystal Cascade is a short 3/10 of a mile, but tough hike with it sudden elevation gain nearing the waterfall. The sign there states the hike to Crystal Cascade is only 10 minutes. With 40 lbs of camera gear in my backpack it was at least 20 minutes.
