1,159 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
Boston, Massachusetts
This VAST photo was taken on a cold February evening in Cambridge looking towards the West End of Boston. This winterscape features the Longfellow Bridge and much of the Back Bay.. Originally built in the 1790’s the Longfellow Bridge was redesigned by Edmund Wheelwright. While not the most famous Boston architect he also designed the Jordan Hall and the Harvard Lampoon Building. The bridge was finished in 1906 and was originally called the Cambridge Bridge. In recent years it has undergone massive renovations to restore it to its former glory.
Beyond the bridge you can see Back Bay with the John Hancock Tower and the Prudential Buildings towering over the city below. The Berkeley Building, affectionately known as the “Old John Hancock Building,” can be seen just to the left of the John Hancock tower. The Berkeley Building is best known for its lighted weather beacon. A 65 foot tall tower that was installed on the roof in 1950. The color and pattern of the lights indicate the Boston weather forecast.
