Grants Grove is located in the western portion of Kings Canyon National Park and is home to some of the most well known big trees in the world. This includes the General Grant Tree, the largest in the grove (3rd largest tree on earth) with a circumference of 107.6 feet and an astonishing 1,650 years of age.
The Grove is rather easily accessible and very close to the Big Stump entrance on Highway 180. However, its large size and plentiful hiking trails allow you to quickly disappear into the wilderness and explore the area in solitude.
It’s a challenge to try and capture these giant trees and in this VAST photo I composed three massive sequoias together. Taken at the trailing end of the day with the last light still coming down into the forest. This is a massive 410 megapixel image that gives you a bit of the sense of scale and wonder this forest offers.
