Angels Window is an easily accessible natural arch at Cape Royal on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Cape Royal is the southernmost viewpoint on the North Rim. It has the widest scenic view of any overlook with the gorge extending to about 270 degrees
We had driven out to Cape Royal for mainly on a sight seeing and photo location scouting trip on this particular day. Despite the fact a wild fire was burning some 30 miles to the northwest and another fire was burning in southern Arizona, this was one of the clearest days I have ever experienced at the North Rim. The wind from the Southwest had been blowing smoke out of the canyon for the past couple of days.
Zooming into the small high resolution view above the window, visible on the far rim, is the Indian Watchtower at Desert View, a 70-foot (21 m)-high stone building located on the South Rim some 8.5 miles (according to Goggle Earth) from the location this image was shot.
