I took this VAST photo of a fallen spruce tree over Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park, Maine, on October 1, 2014, 11:21 AM. Ice thawing in the spring every year has moved the log from its original location further up the pond. The wind was gusting to about 20mph at times, so I used a 10-stop neutral density filter to allow me to use a slower shutter speed to blur the trees and water, but still allow me to use a wide aperture for a shallow depth of field, or “bokehrama”. I focused on the middle of the tree in the pond and let everything else fade out of focus.
