238 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park, Washington

Visually reach out and feel the texture of the moss, the ferns and leaves. Imagine the fresh smell of the forest, now close your eyes and listen. It's all there, let your senses try and take it all in.
With 12-14 feet of rain annually and trees up to 1000 years old, the Hoh Rainforest is a prime example of what an intact temperate rainforest is, its also the most green place I've ever seen, so many hues its incredible.
You almost feel the need to whisper there, like you are in an ancient library and you are afraid to get hushed by the librarian. The sounds are already softened by the lush vegetation so no need to whisper.
When I made this image it was absolutely calm, not even a hint of a breeze. Usually in the Hoh Valley there is an onshore wind from the coast and or a drizzle from the nearly ever present fog which definitely adds to the charm but makes it pretty tough to create images this large. Ive wandered through the Hoh dozens of times over the years and every time it's so different. A giant tree may have fallen, the stream could have changed its course or things just simply grow. It's the reason I continue to go back, I just don't know what has change since the last time I was there and I want to see it.

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.

*Note: a non-glossy, satin matte coating is alternatively available on request.
