276 megapixels! A very high resolution, large-format VAST photo print of rock formations at sunset in Arches National Park; landscape photograph created by David David in Utah

WONDERMENT

276 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
Arches National Park, Utah

This is an example of why a photographer goes back to the same location again and again. Bottom-line, it’s never the same.

I’ve been to Arches National Park many times. The entire area, Utah in general, requires more than one lifetime to experience all its splendor. The Park’s Windows District is a well-deserved popular area. Here you’ll find Windows Arch, Turret Arch, Double Arch, and more.

This particular evening, I situated myself between Windows and Turret Arch, and waited. Given the glorious clouds, the sunset looked promising. My location between the two arches gave me the option of being able to photograph either arch depending on what unfolded. As the sun slowly began to hide itself behind the horizon it became apparent that this evening Turret Arch was going to be the focus of my attention. The sunset was playing out to be exceptional.

But wait a minute! What’s going on here? Something seems a little strange. The sky seems different somehow. This sunset seems like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and I’ve seen a lot of sunsets!

Something indeed was different. It took me awhile to figure out what was happening, but eventually I did. On the other side of Turret Arch, in the distance (I was unable to determine exactly how far away it was.) a huge sandstorm was taking place. This was awesome! The flying, whirling, colorful sand was mixing with the already spectacular sunset to create a phenomenon I’ve never seen before. It made for an unforgettable evening and equally unforgettable image.

Title Origin: I’ve mentioned the following with regard to some of my other Ultra High-Resolution Imagery as well. After processing an image, and prior to printing, the image is gone over with a fine-tooth comb to make sure it’s perfect and meets the VAST exceptionally high-quality standards. If it’s bad, like dust spots, it’s dealt with. But it can also happen during this process that sometimes things are discovered that actually enhance the image. Things that while on location one might not have been aware of. In this instance I had no idea that there was a boy situated in the arch (it’s an easy walk/climb to get to that location) and that he was enjoying the same sunset I was photographing. This puts the exclamation point on an already exceptional image. I had a sense of wonderment while experiencing that sunset, I’m confident he did as well.

Thanks ... and thanks again,

David David

VAST Print™

A VAST Print™ represents the pinnacle of the photographic medium. Each print is a true photograph created specifically for you using light-sensitive paper exposed in a darkroom with the industry's highest precision exposure technique. Your print is then sealed with a shine-enhancing protective glossy coating*, adhered to a sturdy aluminum composite backing, and finished in one of two ready-to-hang formats:

  • Frameless floating display: A hidden mounting brace on the rear gracefully "floats" the print off the wall for a sleek, modern look.
  • Framed display: The print is mounted inside one of our handcrafted 100% wood frames with a decorative separation between the print and the frame so that the print appears to be floating within the frame, providing depth and elegance to the finished photo.
