72 MEGAPIXEL VAST PHOTO
65th St. subway stn., Queens, NY

Wall cuts are panels in New York City subway stations where print advertising is displayed. Transit workers remove or paper over posters; "subway artists" tear layers to create collage-like effects and add graffiti; time passes and paper deteriorates.

The results are a revolving display of found or accidental art, calling to mind Abstract Expressionist, Color Field and Pop Art paintings, collage, mixed media and more recent artistic trends incorporating graffiti, text and abstract and figurative forms.

The panels are remarkable for their intrinsic beauty, variety and range of effect, and for being the product of random forces and human design.

Barton captures these creations using the VAST technique for producing exceptionally high resolution photographs. The photographs are then printed in large formats, resulting in impeccably precise physical replicas of the wall cuts.

Framed acrylic glass display

This elegantly finished product adds a handcrafted frame around one of our acrylic glass displays. The frame gives the acrylic glass display added visual interest and depth, creating greater visual separation between the photo and the surrounding wall.

Your piece has two certificates of authenticity hand-signed by the artist and the printmaker: one affixed to the rear of the frame and one standalone. Additionally, each print is assigned a unique serial number via a permanent hologram seal and recorded in our registry. Its provenance is tracked and verified using state-of-the-art digital technology. Learn more.
