407 megapixels! The highest resolution VAST photo of the September 11th 9/11 Tribute in Light memorial, the World Trade Center, and the Manhattan city skyline at sunset in New York City; created by Dan Piech
Memories and testaments to the September 11th attacks permeate many aspects of life in New York City. One of the most profound of these is the "Tribute in Light," an installation of 88 powerful spotlights projecting 616,000 watts of light from lower Manhattan into the night sky every year on the anniversary of the attacks. This creates two heavenly columns that ascend, seemingly forever - a stunningly beautiful and iconic testament to bravery, sacrifice, and resilience.

On the 15th anniversary of the attacks, nature put on its most impressive display to complement the memorial. I was set up on the Jersey City waterfront with all of my gear for producing the highest resolution photo of the memorial ever created. The sky was filled with wispy hints of clouds pleasantly drifting high overhead. As the sun descended under the horizon, the illumination on those clouds rapidly disappeared and the sky darkened much faster than usual thanks to the unusually dry atmosphere of the late summer day. This quickly shifted the hue of the sky to a beautifully muted deep blue, unveiling the memorial light beams.

But that wasn't all. Nature was saving the best for last. A thick bank of clouds on the distant western horizon unexpectedly became illuminated by the long-set sun, radiating a vibrant fuchsia that perfectly reflected off the lustrous facades that comprise the downtown Manhattan skyline.

After 20 years and thousands of hours photographing all corners of the globe, it was one of the most beautifully reverent moments I have ever witnessed.

15% of the proceeds from this photo will be donated to 9/11 memorial events through the New York Community Trust, the highest-rated 9/11-related charity.

Float-framed print

This frame style mounts one of our giclee prints inside a handcrafted frame made from the highest quality Italian wood. The mount causes the print to appear to float effortlessly within the frame and the resulting gap between the print and the frame border acts as a visual mat, providing depth and elegance to the piece.

Your piece has two certificates of authenticity hand-signed by the artist and the printmaker: one affixed to the rear of the frame and one standalone. Additionally, each print is assigned a unique serial number via a permanent hologram seal and recorded in our registry. Its provenance is tracked and verified using state-of-the-art digital technology. Learn more.

Note: to fully show off the beauty of the print, there is no glazing on the front of the piece. Click on the icons below to learn more.
