The magical light of Lofoten in Norway shines only on some days in winter. Since in the north the sunrises last much longer, you can enjoy the delicate colors for hours.
The picture was taken in front of the tunnel of Napp. Under a very strong tidal current, a tunnel under the sea leads to the neighboring island.
Further out in the fjord is the strongest tidal current in the world, the Maelstrom. It reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h, and huge whirlpools form at its edge. They can reach a diameter of up to ten meters and reach more than four meters in depth.
A mythical background of the maelstrom can be found in the Gróttasöngr of the Edda. After that, the Danish king Fróði receives a hand mill with which everything can be ground. In order to be able to move the heavy millstones, he uses two giantesses, which he buys from the Swedish king. Day and night he forces them to grind gold, wealth, success and happiness. And even today, the huge millstones on the seabed grind the sea salty.
